About Me
Cat sitter in Rotherham
Please note, I no longer do two visits per day as a general rule, as I'm now partially retired, and need some 'me-time'! However, for occasional one-off situations, I may be able to make an exception - just ask. I’m Phoebe, a very young 66 year-old self-employed music teacher and hand-spinner, and I live in Brinsworth, Rotherham with my cat, Emily, who is 14. I very sadly lost my other cat, Baxter two years ago. He had lymphoma - cancer of the lymph system - which had gradually got worse over the last 18 months. He is very much missed. I adopted Emily and Baxter from the RSPCA a few years ago – 2 cats who were difficult to re-home: Emily because she was a feral cat and didn’t like to be handled, so no-one wanted her. She has gradually become more friendly, and since losing her friend, Baxter, has taken his place on my bed at night. She's now almost loving! Baxter had a skin complaint which was brought on by stress and he needed small doses of steroids to keep the condition in control. He had been mistreated by his previous owner, and was still very timid, although he was actually a very loving cat. I took in the two of them because they had become good friends while in the re-homing centre. My previous cat, Roxi, who sadly died in 2017 aged 17, came with me from Orkney when I returned to Rotherham in 2006, as well as her brother, Aeries (pictured), (who died in 2013, aged 13, from renal failure); and my dog, a cross-Gordon Setter - who has also now past on. I have lived with animals all my life – as a child I had mice, hamsters, gerbils, rats, guinea-pigs, and rabbits as well as cats and dogs, and I also went horse-riding. At 17, I ran a pet-shop with my sister, so we learned a lot about animals and pet care. I moved to Orkney with my then-husband and son in 1989, and as well as a cat and a dog, we had 2 angora goats, Heidi and Scrappi, and numerous angora rabbits. They were really pets, but I used the hair to spin and create designer knitwear. Scrappi was not as healthy as Heidi, and I had to give him injections of steroids and vitamins, but even so, he lived to 11 years old. I have looked after a number of friends’ pets in the past, including cats, dogs, rabbits, and even a donkey. One was my friend’s 20-year-old cat, Cleo, who needed various medications – she was deaf and quite vicious at times, but otherwise very sweet! I have 2 enhanced DBS checks for my work as a teacher, and I have a car, so I can travel up to 10 miles or 15 KM from where I live.
I can administer most medications and am happy to groom as well, so your cat will be in good hands with me. I am also happy to look after other small animals, such as rabbits, gerbils etc - as long as they don't need walking - as I may not have time! Just ask. I also love plants and gardening, so I can water your plants as well if necessary!
