About Me
Keeping your cat company in Hove
(Note, December 2023: Over Christmas I'm in town for drop-in visits but won't be able to do overnights.)
Every cat is an individual full of personality, and because our big silly boy Vincent loves being our only cat and wouldn't take kindly to new kittens in his kingdom, I got into cat-sitting a few years ago as an excuse to hang out with more of them.
I'm one of those people who insists on stopping to talk to cats whenever I'm out for a walk. I grew up in the Irish countryside alongside a dynasty of cats and kittens. Now I'm a researcher and university teacher at the Uni of Sussex and currently work from home a couple of days a week, which gives me lots of flexibility. I moved down here from London last year and am enjoying meeting the local cats!
I'm good at reading cats' body language, understanding what they're asking for and giving the more wary ones time and space to warm up. Vincent can testify that I am an excellent sofa snuggler, and you can be confident that I will respect your living space. I have a car so I’m happy to go a few miles afield and even the worst weather is no obstacle.
On the more serious side, our grand old lady Sabine was on various regular medications for four years or so before she passed away a couple of years ago. I got lots of practice administering everything from pills to a sort of gel you had to rub inside her ear twice a day (you can imagine how impressed she was with that), and I know I can act fast under pressure in a medical crisis. I’m also comfortable administering injections if the cat and I get along, but we'd need to meet before I can commit to doing that.
