An experienced cat owner, keen to meet and care for other cats in Brentwood, Essex and Worthing, West Sussex.

I am a retired teacher. I am based in Essex but spend half the summer months in West Sussex. Because I am not always at home, it is no longer practical for me to own a cat. Having shared my life with cats for as long as I can remember up until recently, I miss their company and the pleasure of interacting with them.

Over the years I have shared my home with 12 cats, which have included rescued cats, a Chocolate Point Siamese, and father and son tabbies who each had more than the usual number of toes! At one point three cats were part of our family.

I am a vegetarian of over 50 years and have a high regard for the welfare of all animals.

My interests include painting, art history and writing. I am a member of two local committees with responsibility for publicity and IT administration. I am a car driver.

I would care for any cat as if it were my own while respecting the preferences and natures of different cats - not all want to be fussed over by a stranger, many require their own space and set their own rules. I would be willing to take an unwell cat to a vet and would keep the owners informed of their cat's welfare, via texts, images and video. I can supply a cat travel carrier. I would adhere to any special diet or other specific needs of a cat. I would ensure a cat's feeding bowls were clean and that fresh water was provided at each meal time. I would dispose of any tins, packets or remaining food, to avoid odours in the property.

In the event of a personal emergency, I could set up an electronic feeding device for a short period and would inform the owners immediately.

I am willing to water plants, feed fish and rodents.
