Except for taking care of my own cat, I also have experience helping to take care of a friend's cat. What I can do: a) groom cats, b) prepare food and water for them, c) clean up the droppings, d) trim their nails (if your cats resist clipping, make sure you have protective gear like gloves). Also, I'm familiar with cat behavior; airplane ears, for example, indicate that they're alert, so I judge emotions based on their movements and choose to keep their distance or distract them with a toy.
