Paws for thought , love and cuddles !

For the past two years, I have been fostering kittens and cats from several charities one based in Essex one in north London . I specialise in kittens that have been born outside and aren’t used to human contact . I use a gentle method from the states called sustainable socialisation, which allows the kittens to develop confidence to be stroked and handled . This takes 4-9 weeks usually before they are ready to go to their new home , I like to call it bravery training ! I have a helper in this , in the form of my 15 year old cat Marley ! He has an amazing magical power where the kittens just instantly take to him and he helps them develop into good citizens ! I’ve had cats since a child including rescuing kittens found at the roadside and bottle feeding them when I was about 13 . I’ve had experience with aggressive cats , nervous cats , and just shy cats . From adopting Marley as an aggressive stray , to fostering a feral mum with her three kittens I understand that time and patience is a great healer with cats , and I’ve learnt that what we take as aggression is often fear . I have great knowledge in providing stimulating environments and the importance of hygiene with cats bowls and litter trays . Also providing the correct feeding routines and the importance of good diets . I have recently joined Cats Protection as a volunteer , and completed training modules including, Cat Behaviour , Infectious diseases, Introduction to fostering and many others. I can cover the following areas , Crouch End , Muswell Hill , Hornsey , Woodgreen , Tottenham, Stroud Green , East Finchley , Bounds Green , Barnet . Other areas can be discussed .

I think the most important aspect of a cat sitter is to follow the guidelines of what the owner requires for their individual cat . Every cat has different needs , likes , wants and demands! I look to provide clean trays , clean food and water bowls , playtime , tidy beds , fuss and cuddles if the cat wants this ( some don’t and that’s fine ) I would also check the health of your cat eg if they get into any cat fights and there was a wound , I would advise the owner . I think it’s also important to send updates and photos for reassurance to cat parents , as this is something I would like as a cat owner . I have a DBS and am signed up to the yearly Update service.
