Cat person without a cat

I grew up with cats in Australia as my parents always had cats. But in London have never had the chance, so cat sitting is the next best thing. I find cats generally seem to like me, perhaps it's my calmness.

I am new to cat sitting, so don't have a particular service in mind. But I don't think of cats needing a specific service - you don't takes cats for a walk do you.. So I think of hanging out with a cat, if they want to sit on my lap, it's up to them no? They are the boss.

I am a software consultant and have been delving into home automation for years. This can be really helpful for when you are away. The number one automation I have in my own flat is automated blinds. These will open at sunrise and close at sunset. This is great for the indoor plants when I am away as they still get the sun light they need. Number two would be the motion detectors - these are much less intrusive than indoor cameras for a family home. These can be useful to send you notifications when motion is detected while you are away, so you can be sure that the cat sitter is indeed coming as they said they would.
