About Me
Trusted and highly experienced cat sitter available in Oxford
Hi, I’m Irem - a self-employed mental health trainer, movement therapist, and dance teacher. I work my own hours and can therefore be very flexible in meeting your time requirements. I just love cats and everything about them; from their different temperaments and personalities to the way they communicate with their humans. They are an endless source of love and learning for me. I’ve had several cats over 20 years; a Siamese, a tabby cat, 3 Bengal cats. I am unable to keep a cat in my rented flat so, I am looking for ways to get some feline company back into my life.
Making sure your cat is comfortable and happy is my priority. I have no problem cleaning litter, brushing them, and taking care of general cat duties. Just let me know how you'd like me to be there for your little one and I will try my best to make the both of you happy!
I think I read somewhere on the Cat in a Flat website that the minimum time a sitter was required to spend with a cat was 20 minutes, however, I think this is nowhere near enough time and would be a rare case for me (for example, with a mostly outdoor cat that was totally self-sufficient and only came home for dinner before running out again). With daily visits, I usually spend at least an hour with each cat, if not more, depending on the cat's needs and your wishes. Some cats might be anxious or shy and need more time to warm up and trust people whilst others may need more company and play time. I take great pride in getting to know all the cats I am looking after; their personalities, their quirks, their likes and dislikes, what they like to play with, how and when they like to play, whether they like cuddles or some distance, and I could go on. All of this to say that this would usually take way more than 20 minutes in addition to cleaning/changing the litter, feeding kitty, and the usual daily duties.
I also love house sitting as it means I get to spend even more time looking after your kitty and being there for them when they need me as well as looking after your home while you are away. Cat sitting and the mental health and dance therapy work are my main jobs and so I am home a lot of the time and can keep an eye on making sure your home is safe.
I have a particular interest in the kitties that are anxious or shy. I like to help them feel safe and loved and give them plenty of space and time to get to know me. It gives me great satisfaction when someone tells me that their cat doesn't usually interact with strangers and is shy but with time and patience I am usually able to get close to the cat and make him or her feel safe with me, and maybe even give and receive a lovely cuddle in the process!
I chose to start cat sitting several years ago not for the money, but because I was in a difficult place mentally and the cats really helped me to find meaning and purpose in my life again. They helped me to get up each day and maintain a regular routine because I knew they would be waiting for me to feed them and spend time with them. If I didn't do it, no one else would and this was a real motivator for me. Plus it's such a blessing to be welcomed by a cat when you open the door - it's the best feeling ever!
So, with all that said, thanks for reading this far! If you’d like a happy, well-loved cat and home while you are away, please get in touch with me, I am looking forward to hearing from you! 😻
