About Me
At Home with Cat
I am a semi-retired academic and tutor based in Brighton, currently writing my doctorate. My work means I spend most of my time at home, which allows me to offer a calm, consistent presence for cats and to be attentive to their needs throughout the day.
My experience with cats goes beyond companionship. In the past, I bred Abyssinians and Siamese, and I have extensive hands-on experience caring for kittens, including bottle-feeding through the night. That period taught me a great deal about patience, observation, and the level of commitment good animal care requires. It also means I’m confident in noticing subtle changes in behaviour, appetite, or well-being.
I’ve lived with and cared for cats for most of my adult life and am very comfortable with their rhythms, preferences, and individuality. I understand that cats value routine, choice, and gentle companionship, and I’m attentive to the small details that matter: feeding patterns, indoor–outdoor balance, litter habits, health cues, and the importance of affection on their terms.
Cats have always been a grounding presence in my life. I love their independence, the fun they have in playing, their curiosity, and the companionship they offer. Sharing a home with a cat, whether they are curled up asleep on my lap or having an enthusiastic pounce on a toy, is something I genuinely enjoy rather than see as a responsibility.
I offer calm, attentive, and genuinely cat-centred care. I understand that every cat is unique, so I adapt to their individual personality, preferences, and routines rather than expecting them to fit into a set pattern.
Care typically includes: Feeding according to your cat’s usual schedule Fresh water and litter tray maintenance Gentle or lively play sessions where appropriate Cuddling and lap time for cats who enjoy affection Quiet companionship for cats who prefer to be nearby rather than handled Monitoring behaviour, appetite, and general well-being Administering basic care, such as grooming or medications if required
I’m particularly attentive to the emotional side of cat care — noticing when a cat wants interaction, when they want space, and making sure they feel secure and settled in their own home while you’re away.
Because I spend most of my time at home, your cat will have regular human presence rather than brief drop-ins. I will send daily updates, photos, or short messages if that’s reassuring for you.
I am also a homeowner myself and very practical; I am used to noticing small issues early and treating a home with respect and care.
Above all, my aim is for your cat’s routine to continue as normally and calmly as possible, with plenty of care, affection, and respect for their individual nature.
